On the Home front - taking action against waste at home

Household waste is a major problem with each household in Australia producing on average about a tonne of rubbish every year.

Fortunately there are things that we can all do about it. We call these the 3Rs -

reduce, reuse, recycle

Why is it important to recycle?

  • So that the world is not full of rubbish - Nancy
  • to improve the soil.
  • Paper in the in the worms soil box and they mulch it. and food scap as well - Nancy
  • As you can put it in your garderned. - Nancy
  • save our health - Dot
  • to save our enviornment - Dot
  • To improve the waterways and oceans - Rose
  • To reduce green gases - Paddy

What items can be recycled?

  • bottles
  • Plastic bottles - Nancy
  • Cans - Nancy
  • Jars - and paddy Nancy
  • Paper & card board boxs - Nancy
  • batteries - Dot
  • We recycle plastic bottles, cans and plastic bags. We sort the different coloured bottles into the recycle bin. _ Rose
  • We can recycle your washing water to the garden - Rose
  • water - Paddy
  • raw sewerage - Paddy
  • sump oil - Paddy

Let's make a list of ways we can change the amount of waste we make at home. Sometimes it can be too hard to start the whole recycling thing - it's a big world and we are only small. But if we start at HOME, then recycling, reusing and reducing can be something we all do.

Used my glass jars to make preserves and jams
  • Used glass jars to put oil that we used it the next day - Nancy
  • Used left over food in the glass jars and used next the day
  • used plastic bags as rubbish bags - Dot
  • to put imported papers in - Dot
  • Don't put plastic bottles in the sea - Rose
  • Washing machine hose pipe on to the lawn - Paddy
  • Use cold water wash - Paddy

SHARING our ideas is the first way to reuse & recycle! Add the ways you manage your waste at home to this page and maybe we can all help to make Coonabarabran the most efficient town in NSW!!!

  • Used less electricity - Nancy
  • have more clean up days - Dot
  • handed down my son clothes - Dot
  • We can use less electricity and less water too. Rose
